Social Protection Package for the Retrenched Workers’
(SPPRW) Project is a safety net programme of BRAC designed to offer
a number of social protection packages to the distressed and
frustrated retrenched workers of the state owned enterprises. The
redundancy of these workers is an outcome of the privatization
policy. As the workers are very poor, this sudden attempt has posed
a great uncertainty to the lives of these workers and their family
members. The programme strives to bring an upturn in the livelihood
of the nationalized industry workers through measures like
dissemination of job opportunity related information, counseling,
skill development, credit facility, education stipend and medical
support. A total of 60,000 (approx.) retrenched workers shall be
benefited by the activities of the project over five years |
